Eventuri Toyota GR86 Black Carbon Intake System
Eventuri Toyota GR86 Black Carbon Intake System
The Eventuri Toyota GR86 Black Carbon Intake System was developed for the naturally aspirated FA24 2.4L boxer engine through more than 125 dyno runs on both stock and tuned cars. Eventuri publishes a performance increase of 10 to 14 horsepower and 10 to 11 ft-lb.
Because the FA24 is sensitive to intake air temperatures, Eventuri’s first priority was a fully sealed system. Dyno testing revealed a dip in power around 6000 rpm on the stock ECU. Eventuri found that this dip persists regardless of intake configuration, because a higher-flowing intake creates a strong engine resonance at that engine speed. The factory airbox has a baffling effect at that point in the rev range, but it also restricts power at the top end. By testing different intake lengths, single and dual duct openings, and internal baffles, Eventuri arrived at a configuration that minimizes the resonance dip while gaining 14 horsepower at the top end on the stock ECU. On a tuned car, Eventuri reports large mid-range gains and the elimination of the dip below the stock curve.
The system is built around Eventuri’s patented carbon fiber filter housing. The housing shrouds a reverse-mounted cone filter and reduces in cross-sectional area as it tapers toward the tubing, invoking the Venturi effect so that airflow accelerates while laminar conditions are maintained. Eventuri describes the geometry as a large velocity stack. It replaces the factory airflow path, where air enters the front of the airbox, turns 90 degrees to pass through the panel filter, then turns 90 degrees again to reach the MAF section. The factory mass airflow sensor transfers onto a CNC-machined boss on the carbon housing, which Eventuri uses to ensure a reliable seal.
Air reaches the housing through a carbon fiber dual-feed inlet duct that draws from both openings in the slam panel area, the arrangement Eventuri found least restrictive during testing. An expanding rubber seal mates the duct to the filter housing, keeping heated engine bay air away from the intake feed while still allowing for engine movement. Two laser-cut front scoops sit behind the lower grille and direct ambient air upward into the duct opening, which Eventuri states aids in keeping intake air temperatures low while the car is in motion.
